I am divorce lawyer Rebecca Hamilton, and I help people in Okeechobee County, Florida, develop realistic, practical solutions to their family law issues, including adoption, divorce, marital property division, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, and issues related to domestic violence.
Many of my clients are concerned about cost. One way I help my clients keep costs down is to offer realistic guidance on what they can expect if they go to court. I may not always tell you what you want to hear, but I will always tell you what you need to know. You have choices to make; you can do that best when you have a realistic view of your situation.
Divorce: I represent clients in negotiation or mediation of the division of marital assets and debt and other issues that will need to be resolved during the divorce process. Alternative dispute resolution strategies are often more cost-effective, but they are not right for everyone or every situation. If they do not work for you, I am a strong advocate for your interests in court.
Alimony / Spousal Support: Many people have misconceptions about who can get alimony and for how long. Many men think their wives are not entitled to alimony, but this is not always the case. Many women think that because they did not work while they were married, the law will require their ex-husband to pay enough spousal support for them to continue that lifestyle after divorce. This is seldom true. If you have questions about whether alimony is likely in your divorce, please ask.
Child Custody and Child Support: I work hard to help parents work together to develop child custody and visitation agreements that work in their individual situations. Don't place these important decisions in the hands of a judge when you can make them for yourselves. I also represent clients who are seeking a modification of their child support or child custody arrangements.
Behind on child support payments? You could be facing arrest or loss of your driver's license. Call my office. I may be able to help you negotiate a resolution to your overdue child support or bring challenges to court if your child support arrangements are unworkable.
Domestic Violence: It is unfortunate but not uncommon for people considering divorce to falsely charge a former spouse with domestic abuse in order to gain an upper hand in divorce proceedings. It is unfair, and I defend people facing false restraining orders. Contact my law office if you have been falsely charged with domestic abuse. Don't let a temporary order become a permanent one without challenging it.
